Elam K. Hostetler

November 23, 1931 - December 7, 2021



Elam K. Hostetler, 90, of 114 Poe St., Belleville, entered peacefully into rest at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021.


He was born on Nov. 23, 1931, in Belleville, a son of the late Noah D. and Mattie (King) Hostetler. On Oct. 26, 1960 he married Savilla (Yoder) Hostetler, who preceded him in death on July 15, 2007.

Surviving are: his five children, Lena Stuter and husband Gary of Milroy; Steven Hostetler and wife Rose of Chestertown, Md.; John Hostetler and wife Twila of Belleville; Martha Hostetler of Belleville, and David Hostetler and wife Karla of Middleburg; eight grandchildren, two great- grandchildren; four sisters- in-law, Dorothy Yoder, Naomi Yoder and husband Louis, Mary Yoder, and Nancy Beachy as well as two brothers-in-law, Kore Yoder and wife Susanna and Raymond Yoder and wife Anne.

Elam was the last of his immediate family to pass from this earth. He was preceded in death by, his siblings, Ada, Nancy, Lizzie Kauffman and her husband Kore, Ben Hostetler and his wife Ada, Alvin Hostetler and his wife Ruth Ann, Sadie, and Sollie Hostetler and his wife Anna.

He was a dairy farmer for 32 years, and he worked at Peachey Foods as a butcher part-time. After selling the cows, he worked at AJ Peachey’s for 18 years. He enjoyed landscaping, taking care of his orchard on the farm, gardening, cooking apple butter, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and singing with the Big Valley Men’s Chorus. Elam was a member of Valley View Amish Mennonite Church.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, at Valley View Amish Mennonite Church with Jesse Zook, Loren Yoder, Matthew Peachey and Eli King officiating.

Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the church.

Arrangements are under the care of Henderson Funeral Home, Belleville.
