Alvin was a dairy farmer until 1974. After selling the farm, he was a self-employed contractor, in PA and then in NY, until he retired in 2011. While retired, he mowed lawns and worked at Lowes.

He was a born-again believer and follower of Jesus Christ. Alvin had a passion for reading and studying the Bible and was often found sitting in his recliner with multiple versions of the Bible spread about him. His favorite book of the Bible was James. Alvin was a former member of the Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church, Reedsville PA, and a current member of the Hallsport Community Church, Wellsville, NY, where he enjoyed leading a men’s Bible study. He also had a heart for Israel and her citizens, supporting them through the work of the Jerusalem Prayer Team (JPT).

Alvin enjoyed working in his wood shop, making various items for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and tinkering on the farm in Andover, NY that he and Anna Mae purchased in 1998. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and visiting his siblings.

During the last three years of his life, Alvin lived at Brookline Healthcare and Rehabilitation. We, the family, wish to express our sincere appreciation to all who provided care for our dad. In addition, we wish to thank dad’s siblings for regularly visiting him. He always looked forward to those visits and we are exceedingly grateful for the kindness and love they have shown dad.

Services will be held at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church, 3358 West Main Street, Belleville PA. Friends may call on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 9 - 11 a.m. The funeral service will follow the visitation on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Doug Sabin officiating.
