Anna Mary (Byler) Hartzler

March 18, 1926 - October 27, 2022




Anna Mary (Byler) Hartzler 96, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, passed away at the Haven.


Born March 18, 1926, in Shrader, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Ada (Peachey) Byler. On March 26, 1944, she married George W. Hartzler who preceded her in death Jan. 19, 2016.

Survivors are Louise Byler and husband Daniel of Belleville, and Ray Hartzler and wife Frances of Lewistown, nine grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Also surviving are: sisters Edith Kanagy, Flora Byler and Emma Jane Roth and husband Nelson all of Belleville.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Darlis Showalter and five sisters, Ethel Byler, Tilma Harshbarger, Martha Peachey, Mary Byler, Florence Vaughn, brother Jefferson Byler, and a stillborn brother, Raymond Byler.

Anna was primarily a homemaker and assisted her husband on the farm for 40 years. She was her husband’s right hand, helping him in all things. She was a seamstress, quilt maker, and cake baker, baking many delicious wedding and birthday cakes for family and friends. She was an excellent cook and liked to entertain. She also liked to garden as long as good health permitted it. She was nurse for her husband when surgeries were necessary. In her retirement she was often seen in the woodshop with her husband, making things for family. She was concerned for the well being of her family. George and Anna were married for 71 years.

She was a member of the Beth-El Mennonite Church.

Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022, at Allensville Mennonite Church with Pastors David Aungst, Nelson Roth and Phil Harrington officiating. Burial will take place at Allensville Mennonite Cemetery following the service. Her family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service at Allensville Mennonite Church on Sunday.
