Bertha I. Swarey

July 28, 1952 - January 2, 2023

Bertha I. Swarey, 70, of 12909 Dachenbach Lane, Mill Creek, passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023.

She was born July 28, 1952, in Belleville, a daughter of the late John Z. and Lena M. (Kurtz) Kauffman.

On May 25, 1978, Bertha married her husband, Benjamin R. Swarey, who survives at home. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her siblings: Norman Kauffman of Mayfield, KY, John Z. Kauffman, Jr. and wife, Ella Mae, of Allensville, Julia Miller of Mattawana, Elsie King and husband, Fred, of Allensville, and a sister-in-law, Elsie Kauffman, of Belleville.

She is also survived by 34 special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Ivan Kauffman, Orpha Joyce Kauffman, Mary Ruth Kauffman, a sister-in-law, Mary Kauffman, and brother-in-law, Clyde Miller.

Primarily a homemaker, Bertha also taught school in Liberty, KY, and was a secretary at Sunset Welding.

She was a member of Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church.

Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church with David Byler, Arlan Kurtz, and Daryl Yoder officiating. Burial will take place at Allensville Amish Mennonite Cemetery following the service.

Her family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, at Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church.
