Bertha L. (Byler) Peachey

March 11, 1927 - December 4, 2020





Bertha L. (Byler) Peachey, 83, of Valley View Terrace, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2020 at the Terrace.


Born March 11, 1927 in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late David A. and Sadie (Peachey) Byler. On February 21, 1948, she married Glenn E. Peachey. He preceded her in death on November 13, 2015.

She is survived by children, Lucille Yutzy, and husband Tim, of McAlevy’s Fort; Glenda Hartzler, and husband, Don of Belleville; Sharon Spicher and husband Tom, of McAlevy’s Fort; Marlene Zook & husband Herb of Belleville, PA; Sheldon Peachey & wife Barb of Belleville, PA; Mark Peachey & wife Susan of Belleville, PA; Tim Peachey & wife Marlene of McAlevy’s Fort, PA; Ronda Yoder & husband Mike of McAlevy’s Fort, PA. Grandchildren, Noah & Diane Yutzy; David & Amber Yutzy; Kent & Stephanie Hartzler; Neil & Lena Hartzler; Bethany & Micah Schonberg; Karen Spicher & Jae Young Lee; Brian & Lauren Spicher; Michelle & Mike Kline; Kim & Adam Showalter; Laura & David Smoker; Marcus & Joan Peachey; Maria & Matt Groff; Christine & Joel Krall; Theresa & Seth Crissman; Jonathan & Kelsey Peachey; Brian & Marie; Bucar; Adam Bucar; Carrie & Jeffrey Zook; Tyler & Dawn Peachey; Rebecca & Adam Peachey; Desiree & Shawn Gertzen; Dustin & Heidi Yoder; Kristen & Josh Bearley; Shannon & Jason Peachey; 69 great-grandchildren, as well as her siblings, Lois Peachey, David Byler, Raymond Byler and Leonard Byler.

Bertha was preceded in death by two sons, Arlan Peachey and David Lee Peachey, two grandchildren, Joel Peachey and Rachel Peachey, as well as her siblings, Ella Mae Byler, Verna Yoder, Martha Zook, Ruth Kauffman, Jesse Byler, and Florence Richer.

She was primarily a homemaker. Bertha had an open heart and home to a wide variety of people including her egg customers, neighbors, fresh air children and international guests. She was a member of Allensville Mennonite Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Bible school leader, Sunday school superintendent of the children’s department, and a faithful participant in the Ladies Sewing Circle. She served as a volunteer at the Thrift & Gift Shop in Belleville for a number of years and she and her husband helped to prepare & serve for Meals on Wheels. Bertha was a faithful prayer warrior for her family and her church family. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as quilting.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020 at Allensville Mennonite Church with Pastors Sherman Stoltzfus, Vaughn Kanagy and Bob Zook officiating. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Bertha’s family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Valley View Terrace. She very much enjoyed her time there and considered the residents and staff her family.
