Bertha M. Zook, 93, of 4437 E. Main St., Belleville, went to be with Jesus at 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Born July 22, 1928, in Belleville, she was the daughter of the late Alvin M. and Annie M. (Peachey) Yoder. On Nov. 24, 1949, she married Stephen W. Zook Jr., who passed away on May 31, 2017.
Surviving are her children, Alvin D. Zook and wife Sharon of Hartville, Ohio, Linda R. Zook of Belleville, Anna Mary Hostetler and husband Norman of Belleville, Joseph M. Zook and wife Erma of Belleville, Rose M. Kauffman and husband Raymond of Belleville, and Esther Troyer and husband Norman of Millersburg, Ohio; 25 grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; a brother-in- law, Sylvanus Peachey; and a sister-in-law, Catherine M. Zook. She was preceded in death by an infant sister and a daughter-in-law, Anna Mary Zook.
Bertha was primarily a homemaker and a member of Valley View Amish Mennonite Church. She was very well known for her hickory nut cakes. She enjoyed doing puzzles and word searches, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, at Valley View Church with Matt Peachey, Jalon Zook and Jesse Zook officiating. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
