Deborah Anne Simpson, 78, of State College, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 2:39 p.m. at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania.

Born in Reedsville, Pennsylvania where she grew up, Deborah developed her life-long love of learning and creativity. She embarked on a diverse and fulfilling career that reflected her many talents and interests. Beginning as a school teacher, she later became a real estate agent before finding her true calling as the owner and operator of “The Federal House,” a beloved gift shop in Boalsburg that became a treasured destination for those seeking unique and beautiful items.

Deborah’s artistic spirit touched everything she did. She was a gifted painter and crafter who filled her world with her own beautiful creations. Her eye for the whimsical and beautiful was evident in both her art and her carefully curated collections.

Her deep love for animals was legendary among those who knew her. Deborah was always surrounded by her cherished cats, dogs, fish, birds, and other animals; creating a home filled with the warmth and companionship that only her beloved pets can provide. Her compassionate heart extended to all creatures. Some may say she liked animals more than people. But if you loved animals then she loved you.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Kenneth Simpson; her loving son, Nicholas Simpson of Bethlehem; her daughter-in-law, Katie; her grandson, Ryan A. Simpson of New York City, NY; her brother, A. Frank Gibboney IV and wife Sharon of Lewistown; and her sister, Margaret G. Warmke and Arthur of Hollidaysburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and A. Franklin Gibboney III.

She was a 1965 graduate of Kishacoquillas High School and a 1969 graduate of Slippery Rock University.

Deborah’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched through her teaching, the beauty she created through her art, the joy she brought to customers at The Federal House, and the love she shared with her family and beloved animals. She will be remembered for her creative spirit, and her ability to create beauty in the world around her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 4 p.m. at the Henderson Funeral Home with Nick Simpson officiating.  Burial will be private.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to: Centre County PAWS, 1401 Trout Road, State College, PA  16801.
