Esther R. Confer

February 12, 1934 - September 26, 2020


Esther R. Confer, 86, of 70 Rockville Road, Belleville, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020 at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown.


Born Feb. 12, 1934 in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Walter Waldo and Anna Marie (Kerns) Hoffmaster. On Jan. 24, 1953, she was united in marriage to Homer C. Confer. Homer passed away on Dec. 27, 2003.

Esther is survived by her children, Susan A. Spigelmyer of McClure; Carl V. Confer, and wife, Doris of Huntingdon; Patrick J. Confer of McVeytown; Timothy L. Confer of McVeytown; Linda M. Confer of Huntingdon; and Dale R. Confer of Belleville; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; as well as her siblings, John Hoffmaster, and wife, Nancy, Don Hoffmaster, Sam Hoffmaster, and wife Pat, and Ralph Robert Hoffmaster, all of Huntingdon, and two sisters, Mary Daldo, and husband, Jim, of Williamsport and Clarabelle Weaver of Tyrone.

Along with her parents and spouse, Esther was also preceded in death by her son Homer C. Confer, Jr. on September 10, 2006, a brother, Walter Hoffmaster, Jr., and two sisters, Betty Hoffmaster and Janie Hoffmaster.

Esther was primarily a homemaker. She had also worked in the feather house at Metz Hatchery for a period of time and she taxied Amish for a number of years.

She was Methodist by faith. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, making home made ice cream and having family get-togethers.

Her funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020 at Henderson Funeral Home, Belleville with Pastor Doug Pierce officiating.

Burial will take place at Donation Cemetery in Huntingdon. Her family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
