Fern A. (Kauffman) Hartzler, 92, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
She was born on April 24, 1932, to the late Alden J. and Sadie (Hartzler) Kauffman. On May 14, 1955, she married Lee M. Hartzler, who preceded her in death on July 10, 2020.
Surviving are children: LeAnn Hartzler of Belleville, Gene L. Hartzler and wife Esther of Mount Pleasant, PA; grandchildren: Josiah E. Hartzler and wife, Leah of Greensburg, PA and their son, Noah Hartzler; Gabriel L. Hartzler and wife Anna of Columbus, OH; siblings: Betty Yoder of Belleville, Esther Kauffman and husband John of Belleville, brother-in-law: Kenneth Hartzler and wife Betty of Belleville; sister-in-law: Kathleen Chambers and husband Frank, of Lewistown.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings: Glenn Kauffman, Mark Kauffman Dennis Kauffman, Gary Kauffman, Dean Kauffman, Virginia Cherry, and Ina Yoder; brother-in-law, Lester Hartzler; and sister-in-law, Sara Hartzler.
She graduated from Belleville High School and was employed at Valley View Haven as a receptionist for a number of years.
She was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was part of the ladies choir. In earlier years, she was involved with the Fresh Air Fund, where she made trips to New York to escort children back to the valley for a summer stay. She taught and enjoyed making ceramics and sharing that hobby with others. She enjoyed watching and supporting her son and grandsons sporting events. She enjoyed going on trips to Myrtle Beach with her sisters.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home, 3813 West Main Street, Belleville. A memorial service will be held on at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Maple Grove Mennonite Church, 115 Maple Grove Road, Belleville, with Pastors Phoebe Quaynor and Herb Zook officiating. Burial will be private.

Gene and LeeAnn, I am so sorry for your loss. Aunt Fern was a great Aunt and I have many fond memories of her. She called me pumpkin for many years. Her home with beautiful flowers and bird feeders was beautiful.
