Fern E. Grace, 89, of Valley View Haven, passed away at 9:53 a.m. Sunday, March 27, 2022, at the Haven.
She was born Feb. 4, 1933 in Lewistown, a daughter of the late Alphie and Amanda (Hertzler) Smucker. On March 13, 1999, she married Carl D. Grace, who preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 2018.
She is survived by a step-daughter, Sharon Bradshaw and husband Joe of Sarasota, Fla., a stepson, Steven Grace and wife Holly of Hood River, Ore., as well as seven step-grandchildren, Benjamin Bradshaw, Emily Gunawan and husband Indra and their son Jed, Samuel Bradshaw, Isabelle Pierce and husband Timothy, Zachary Grace, Victoria Barrentine and husband Ryland and Sophia Whitaker and husband Nolan, a sister, Janet Byler and husband Urbane of Goshen, Ind., a brother-in-law, Ray French & his wife Louise of Ephrata, Pa., as well as many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma French.
Fern was a 1961 graduate of Eastern Mennonite College and served as an elementary school teacher in Lancaster and Mifflin County school districts for 30 1/2 years, before her retirement in 1992.
She was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church and the Willing Workers Sunday school class. She was also a member of the PA Retired Teacher’s Assoc.
Fern enjoys reading, crocheting, doing volunteer work, and visiting with her many friends and family.
Her viewing will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. at Valley View Haven Chapel. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Maple Grove Mennonite Church with Pastor Alan Kauffman officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Allensville Mennonite Cemetery. Masks are strongly recommended.
