Floyd E. Mentzer, 95, 15679 Hill Valley Road, Mount Union, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at home.
He was born on February 23, 1928, in Burnt Cabins, PA to the late Warren E. and Florence E. (Sample) Mentzer. On October 24, 1953, he married Sara Mae (Morgan) Mentzer, who survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Kevin F. Mentzer and wife Maryanne of Ephrata, PA, and Crist R. Mentzer and wife Michele (Kauffman) of Lewistown, PA; four grandchildren, Heather Summers and husband Dan of Mechanicsburg, Jennifer Jewett of Ephrata, Crist R. Mentzer, Jr., of Morgantown, WV, Darren J. Mentzer of Lewistown; four great-grandchildren, Veronica, Ella, CJ, and Eleanor; brothers and sisters: Geraldine M. Piper of Hill Valley, Thelma I. Briggs of Shade Valley, Donna J. Briggs of Fannettsburg, Sara Jane Bishop and husband James of LeMasters, Dorothy E. “Dotty” Parson and husband Gary of Shade Gap, Bonnie K. Parson of Shade Gap, Patricia Ann “Patsy” Brady and husband Kevin of Needmore, Carol Williams and husband John of Reading, and a sister-in-law Pauline Mentzer Haul of Rockhill Furnace.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty A. Hancock and a brother Robert W. Mentzer.
He served in the U.S. Army from October 1951 – September 1953. For 39 ½ years, he worked for Letterkenny Army Depot prior to his retirement in 1989. He was a devout member of Singers Gap United Methodist for many years and served as a Godly example.
His hobbies included hunting and fishing, especially with his grandchildren and sons, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 10 – 11 a.m. at Singers Gap Independent Church, with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Jerry Wise officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
