Helen G. Yoder, 94, of Belleville, passed away on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 at Valley View Haven Retirement Community in Belleville.
Born on Nov. 16, 1925 in Elizabethtown, she was the daughter of the late Ezra R. Garber and Mary (Stauffer) Garber. She married David S. Yoder on May 29, 1954. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1998. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses: Harold Garber (Evelyn), Barbara Stoltzfus (Daniel), and Ralph Garber (Marion). She is survived by three children: Dwight Yoder (Nancy), Ruth Yoder (David) all of Belleville, and Rachel Smith (William) of Port Matilda. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Alex Yoder (Alyssa) of Harrisburg, Neal Yoder of Milroy, Lisa Yoder (Chad Ostrowski), Lauren Rogers (Ben) all of Lancaster, Mark Yoder of Belleville, and one great granddaughter, Anya Yoder Ostrowski.
Helen retired from Valley View Retirement Community in 1994 where she was a licensed practical nurse. In retirement, she volunteered at the Big Valley Thrift and Gift Shop. She was a faithful and active member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church in Belleville for 60 years where she especially enjoyed the fellowship of her Sunday School class and Sewing Circle. Helen was a wonderful mother and a steadfast follower of Jesus Christ. She lived her life with dignity and integrity. She was a talented seamstress and a prolific gardener. Her family and friends will dearly miss her wit and wisdom.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2020 at the Maple Grove Mennonite Church with Pastor Alan Kauffman officiating. According to Helen’s wishes burial at the Locust Grove Cemetery will be private.
Should friends desire and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maple Grove Mennonite Church, 115 Maple Grove Road, Belleville, PA 17004.
