Herman Grethe Smith, 74, formerly of Belleville, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020 at Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflintown.
Born April 23, 1946 in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Herman Elmer Smith and Helen Pauline (Henry) Smith.
He is survived by brother Stanley Clifford Smith and wife Janet of Lewistown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Herman Elmer Smith on June 8, 1944 and by a sister, Sandra R. Platt in January 2015.
Herman graduated from Lewistown High School and attended the vo-tech from 10th through 12th grades in the machine shop. Following his graduation, he went to work at New Holland as a welder. He was a tool and dye maker by trade. Herman retired on May 30, 2001. He enjoyed fishing and bowling, but he mostly enjoyed golfing and working with his friend, Frank Luke.
He was Mennonite by faith, a member of the F&AM 376, McVeytown Blue Lodge, a member of Tall Cedars and a member of the Shriner’s Club of Altoona.
His graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020 at Lind Memorial Cemetery in Lewistown.
