December 16, 1923 - February 19, 2024
Irvin H. Kanagy, 100, of North Ridge Center Personal Care in McAlisterville, and formerly of Belleville, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024 at North Ridge Center.
He was born December 16, 1923 in Belleville, a son of the late Amos H. and Emma (Yoder) Kanagy. On March 15, 1975, he married Orpha (Yoder) Kanagy who preceded him in death on December 27, 2008.
Irv is survived by: a step-son, Carl Yoder of Madison, Wis., as well as a number of very special nieces & nephews that he thought a lot of. He was always very concerned about their well-being.
He was the last of his immediate family, and along with his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Huldah Kanagy & Effie Kanagy, two brothers, Sherman (Edith) Kanagy and Raymond (Faye) Kanagy as well as an infant brother, Elmer Kanagy.
Irv was employed at Abbotts Dairy/Fairmont in Belleville until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church, and he thoroughly enjoyed attending his Sunday school class and visiting with the people from church. He was also very appreciative of his various Pastors through the years at Maple Grove.
He enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially fishing, camping, sitting around the campfire with family, and taking rides in the mountains. He was also an avid reader, and enjoyed making wooden items in his wood shop, sending cards to family & friends, visiting with family & friends and going out to eat.
His funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Maple Grove Mennonite Church with Pastor Herb Zook officiating. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery following the service. His viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.
