Jack A. ‘Joker’ Freed

June 26, 1937 - July 18, 2022




Jack A. “Joker” Freed, 85, of Greenwood Village, Lewistown, and formerly of Reedsville, passed away at 2:11 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2022, at Greenwood Village.


He was born June 26, 1937, in Yeagertown, the son of Sherman A. and Jenny (Wagner) Freed. On June 13, 1959, he married Brenda F. Harmon. She preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 2022.

He is survived by: a son, Richard H. Freed and wife Jo of Lewistown, a daughter, Penny D. Freed of Reedsville, two grandsons, Cody T. Freed of Reedsville, and Matthew Freed of Lewistown, four great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Wilgus Elliott of Lewistown and Arlene Kready of Middletown.

Along with his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by, three brothers, Robert, Donald, and Ronald Freed, two sisters, Barbara Freed and Betty Bumgardner, two infant brothers, and a granddaughter, Amber Freed.

Jack was employed at Reedsville Mill and then subsequently he worked at East Gate Feed and Grain for his entire adult life.

He is a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Allensville and currently was a member of Windy Hill Bible Church in Burnham. He enjoyed attending Penn State football games with his grandson and going to the Senators baseball games in Harrisburg. He also enjoyed mowing grass and going on coon dog field trials with his close friends.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Henderson Funeral Home, Belleville, with Pastor John Reed officiating. Burial will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Belleville following the service. His family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
