Jacob S. Swarey

August 16, 1932 - September 9, 2021



Jacob S. Swarey, 89, of 4430 East Main St., Belleville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his home on Sept. 9, 2021.


Born Aug. 16, 1932 in Belleville, he was a son of the late Samuel and Mary (Renno) Swarey. On Dec. 30, 1954, he married Ella C. (Byler) Swarey, who survives at their home.

Also surviving are nine children: Henry J. Swarey and wife Emma (Peachey) of McVeytown; Sarah B. Peight and husband Louie of Belleville; Mary Swarey of Belleville; Samuel D. Swarey and wife Lavina (Peachey) of Allensville; Ada Swarey of Martinsburg; Linda Yoder and husband Amos of Petersburg; Benuel C. Swarey and wife Sarah Ann (Slabaugh) of McVeytown; Jacob S. Swarey, Jr. & wife Marlene (Peachey) of Adams, NY; and Reuben S. Swarey and wife Kathryn (Helmuth) of Mannsville, NY; 28 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, as well as his siblings, Urie D. Swarey and wife Nancy of Belleville; Anna B. Yoder and husband Kore of Belleville; and Mary Kanagy and husband Menno of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ella Mae Swarey, two brothers, Jesse Swarey and Ezra B. Swarey, two sisters, Katie Swarey and Sarah Kanagy, a sisters-in-law, Elsie Swarey and Mary Swarey and a brother-in-law, Kore Kanagy.

Jacob was an ordained minister. His ordination was October 4, 1973. He and his wife Ella resided in Michigan for 26 years. He was also a hard-working farmer and after his retirement, he enjoyed making projects in his wood working shop.

He was a member of the Shavers Creek Fellowship Church.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2021 at Pleasant View Church with the Shavers Creek Ministry officiating. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the church.
