Jane (Howard) Powell

December 17, 1932 - May 6, 2023




Jane (Howard) Powell, 90, of McAlevy’s Fort, PA, entered into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her family.


Born Dec. 17, 1932, at home in Jackson Township, she was the daughter of the late Clara (Traxler) Howard. On June 14, 1958, she married Paul Davis Powell in Whitehaven, PA. He preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2020. In addition to her mother and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Howard Reitz and Helen Howard Smith, and a very close nephew, Charles B. Howard.

Surviving are: her children, Sharon Kay Powell and husband, Jerry Powell, of State College; Susan Powell Whitfield and fiancÈ, Mike Spayd, of McAlevy’s Fort; Stephen Davis Powell and wife, Beth, of McAlevy’s Fort; and Shirley Powell Clipper and husband, David, of Phoenixville, PA; grandchildren, Erin Whitfield and partner, Benjamin Page, Nathan Whitfield, Eliana Powell, Eli Powell, David Clipper, and Alexander Clipper; 2 step grandchildren, Patricia Stauffer and Kirsten Yale.

Jane graduated from Huntingdon High School Class of 1950. She was employed at Blairs of Huntingdon. She assisted on the family dairy farm with her husband. Jane was a homemaker and her primary job was raising her four children. She was a lifelong member at Ennisville Methodist Church and served as the treasurer of the Green Lee Cemetery in McAlevy’s Fort for many years. Jane assisted her husband with various dairy activities. Jane and her husband retired from farming in 2005 and were able to take numerous vacations including several trips by paddleboat down the Mississippi River. A highlight for the two of them was a trip to Alaska in 2007. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading, collecting glassware and bells, as well as bird watching. She loved animals, especially her dogs, Minnie and Lily. Her legacy will be that she was a devoted, strong-willed wife and mother, and most importantly, loved the Lord with all her heart.

Jane will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.

Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2023, at Henderson Funeral Home, Belleville with Pastor Kym Eichelberger officiating. Burial will take place at Green Lee Cemetery in McAlevy’s Fort. Her family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Friday.
