Joanne E. (Peachey) Kauffman

February 24, 1939 - November 28, 2020


Joanne E. (Peachey) Kauffman, 81, of Valley View Haven, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020 at the Haven.


Born Feb. 24, 1939 in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late Harvey L. and Anna (Hartzler) Peachey. On December 6, 1958 she married R. Leroy Kauffman. He preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 2020. Surviving are: her children, Jayne L. Kanagy & husband Marvin; Roderick N. Kauffman & wife Gloria; Jill L. Metzler & husband Alan; and Chadwick L. Kauffman, all of Reedsville; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Ehresman, Valerie Reed, Kara Yoder, Dustin Kauffman, Ashlee Vilakati, Eric Kauffman, Lucas Metzler, Logan Metzler, Nathan Metzler, and Sarah Kauffman; 17 great-grandchildren, a very special family, the Sweigarts; and siblings, Lois Yoder of Harrisonburg, VA; James Peachey of Spring Mills; Loren Peachey & wife Janice of Burnham; twin sister, Jane Diffenderfer of Reedsville; and Helen Yoder & husband Floyd of Reedsville; as well as sisters-in-law, Lois Peachey of Georgia; and Delores Peachey of Belleville.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Solomon Peachey and Harvey Peachey and a sister, Patricia Zook.

Joanne graduated from Belleville Mennonite School in 1957. She was primarily a homemaker, and had also worked as an aide at Lewistown Hospital and in housekeeping at Valley View Haven.

She was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church where she served as a deaconess and on the BMS Ladies Auxiliary. Joanne volunteered in many capacities at BMS and also at the community hall for community dinners. She loved music and was involved in many choral groups. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren and especially enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her home. She was well known for her love, kindness and generosity to all.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers that took care of Joanne at home and the staff at Valley View Memory Care and at the Haven.

Her services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery, Belleville.
