John was born in Lewistown, Feb. 19, 1945, to Robert K. and Ruth L. Metz, both of whom he loved dearly.

He attended Kishacoquillas High School and later attended Florida Southern College, where he met the love of his life, Marsha K. Metz. Together they were married for nearly 50 years before she passed away in 2016.

John is survived by his daughter, Julie Metz; granddaughter, Ruthie Thompson and Ty Norris of Goldsboro, NC; son, David Metz; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Metz; and grandchildren, Owen and Kathryn of Boiling Springs; and son, Adam Metz and daughter-in-law, Jen Metz, and grandchildren, Joshua, Aidan, and Benjamin of Camp Hill.

He is also survived by his brother, Robert “Buck” Metz Jr. and wife, Sandra Metz; sister, Sarah “Sally” Metz; and friend, Ellen Bryant.

John enjoyed a successful career working with his beloved brother at Metz Hatchery. He had wonderful friends who he could count on for fun and companionship and who shared his passion for golf and cards. He had a way of making those around him smile. He was a fantastic husband, friend, brother and grandfather, but most of all he was the greatest father, who loved his children fiercely.

A celebration of his life will be held on a future date.
