April 3, 1941 - January 20, 2023
Juanita “Nita” Marie Peachey, 81, of Belleville, passed away following a short illness at Valley View Haven Nursing Home, in Belleville, on Jan. 20, 2023.
Nita was born in Washington, DC on April 3, 1941, to Grace Irene and Isaac Elgin Byrd. She attended Walt Whitman High School in Washington, DC.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jacob H. Peachey, of Belleville. She is also survived by brothers, Dr. Edward B. Byrd and his wife, Ellen, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and William Byrd and his wife, Pat, of Mobile, AL; sons, Walter Warren Land, Jr. and his wife, Robin, of Belleville, Henry Thomas Peachey, of Belleville, and daughter, Doris M. Butler, and her husband, Randy, also of Belleville. She is also survived by grandchildren; Stephen Daniel Land of Hagerstown, MD, Isaac Land, Isaiah Land, Caleb Land, Charnelle Land, Lydia Land, and Cheresse Poper, of Belleville, as well as 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by long-time best friends, Judy Teter and Judy Brown of Hagerstown, MD.
Nita was full of life, and loved to travel with her husband, Jake. They took many trips together, including a train trip across the country. She also enjoyed visiting her daughter in Florida. She loved animals of all kinds, but especially cats. She volunteered, for a time, at the Pets Come First animal shelter, in Centre Hall, PA. Having the huge heart that she did, she ended up adopting several cats from there. She loved her family and enjoyed family get-togethers and birthday celebrations. She was definitely someone who “never met a stranger.” She was friendly and outgoing and loved to strike up conversations with anyone she met. She was deeply loved and will be missed by her family and all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by parents, Isaac Elgin Byrd and Grace Irene Byrd, of Hagerstown, MD, sister, Doris Ann Byrd, of Mobile, AL, and an infant son, Daniel Warren Land.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date, to be announced.
