Katie L. Detweiler

Katie L. Detweiler, 91, of 109A Brookfarm Drive, Belleville, passed away at 5 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, at her home.


Born March 15, 1930, in Menno Township, she was a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Barbara (Byler) Zook. On Nov. 16, 1950, she married David H. Detweiler, who preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 2005.

Surviving are: her chidren, Samuel Z. Detweiler and wife Salome of McVeytown, Barbara S. Swarey and husband Mark H. of Mifflinburg, Joseph G. Detweiler and wife Leatha of Winfield, Sara Anna Sharp and husband David S. of Belleville, and David H. Detweiler, Jr. and wife Ruth of Greenwood, S.C.; 35 grandchildren, 72 great- grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, as well as two brothers, Ben Y. Zook of Belleville and Joseph C. Zook of Newmanstown.

Katie was preceded in death by a brother, Jonathan Zook and a sister, Lydia Byler.

She was primarily a homemaker. She had also done house cleaning for a number of people and places in the valley. She worked as the cook at Marge’s Restaurant at the sale barn for a number of years as well.

She was a member of Valley View Amish Mennonite Church, and she enjoyed working outside in her yard and flower gardens.

Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, at Valley View Amish Mennonite Church with Maynard Swarey, Matthew Peachey, and Jesse Zook officiating. Burial will take at Locust Grove Cemetery following the service. Her family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Arrangements are under the care of Henderson Funeral Home, Belleville.
