Lawrence Allen ‘Larry’ Stroup III

October 15, 1950 - February 28, 2023


Lawrence Allen “Larry” Stroup III, 72, of Belleville, passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.


He was born Oct. 15, 1950, in Belleville, a son of the late Lawrence Alan “Linz” Stroup Jr. and Susanne “Toot” (Baker) Stroup. On June 15, 1995, he married Carol (Palm) Stroup. She resides at their home.

He is also survived by: his children, Jason Thomas Stroup and partner, Pam Coy, of Belleville; Christina “Tina” Stroup of Coolidge, AZ; Jeremy D. Kenepp and wife, Kari, of Belleville; Nathan E. Kenepp and wife, Melody, of Lewistown; Aaron P. Kenepp and wife, Dana, of Belleville; and Zane Kenepp, of Lewistown; 12 grandchildren, Keesha Hoar, Tori Wagner, Sydney Kenepp, Raya Kenepp, Breanna Kenepp, Whitney Kenepp, Monica Wagner, Leah Kenepp, Taylor Kenepp, Regan Kenepp, Benjamin Kenepp, and William Kenepp; and four great-grandchildren, Gia Wagner, Braxton Hoar, Delvin Pent, and Samara Wagner; as well as his brothers and sisters, Sharon Dancy of Greenville, Molly Hummel and husband, Jerry, of IN, Thomas Stroup and wife, Debbie, of Winterhaven, FL, Michael G. “Mike” Stroup and wife, Sue, of Belleville, and Patrick C. Stroup and wife, Lisa, of Belleville.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Susanne “Susie” Smoker, and brothers, Timothy “Tim” Baker Stroup and Matthew T. Stroup.

He attended Kish High School until the 10th grade. Larry graduated in 1978 from Huntingdon Area High School. Following graduation, he attended the Philadelphia School of Business for approximately two years then transferred to the National College of Business in Rapid City, SD. He obtained a B.S. in data processing in 1972 and was a member of the Tau Sigma Pi fraternity.

Larry went on to work at the Allensville Planing Mill for 32 years, working his way up from installing their first computer systems to becoming the Chief Financial Officer. Lastly, he was employed at J. M. Young & Sons, Inc. in Belleville, until his retirement in 2008.

His favorite place to be was Camp Belle-Green, where he was a life-long member and treasurer.

He previously served as a member of the Lewistown Country Club, Belleville Lions Club, and the Big Valley Area Jaycee’s. Larry was an associate member of the Belleville VFW Post 5935, where he assisted with many activities including the barbecue chicken dinners and Memorial Day celebrations.

He was also a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Belleville, where he served as an elder, a choir member, and held various positions within the church over the years. He enjoyed playing solitaire, swimming, and was an avid golfer.

His services will be private and at the convenience of the family at Henderson Funeral Home, Belleville, with Pastor Doug Pierce officiating.
