Lee M. Hartzler

June 30, 1935 - July 10, 2020

Lee M. Hartzler, 85, of 232 Hartzler Drive, Belleville, passed away at 8:28 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2020, at Valley View Haven.


Born June 30, 1935, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Leroy Hartzler and Sadie (Kauffman) Hartzler.

In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Hartzler.

Lee is survived by his wife, Fern (Kauffman) Hartzler, whom he married May 14, 1955, and she resides at their home. Also surviving are: children, LeAnn Hartzler, of Belleville, and Gene L. Hartzler and wife, Esther, of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, Josiah E. Hartzler, of Camp Hill, and Gabriel L. Hartzler, of West Mifflin; brother, Kenneth Hartzler and wife, Betty, of Belleville; sister, Kathleen Chambers and husband, Frank, of Lewistown; and sister-in-law, Sara Hartzler, of Harrisonburg, Va.

Lee graduated from Belleville Mennonite School and then attended Eastern Mennonite University. He worked as a bookkeeper at S.I. Yoder Oil Company for a number of years. Following that, he served as an independent insurance agent in the Big Valley area for 35 years.

Lee was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church, he sang in the Big Valley Men’s Chorus. He was a member of the Elk Lodge #1600, Boalsburg. He was associated with a number of insurance organizations.

He was an avid golfer, he and his wife loved to travel and most of all, he enjoyed watching his grandsons play soccer.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Locust Grove Cemetery, Pastor Alan Kauffman officiating.
