January 8, 1939 - January 5, 2023
Leroy J. Walters, 83, of Belleville, passed away on Jan. 5, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born on Jan. 8, 1939, in Menno Township, to the late Clarence and Mildred (Zook) Walters. On June 21, 1997, he married Nancy (Weiand) Walters in Granville. Nancy survives at their home.
Along with his wife, he is also survived by: his children, James Walters and wife, Carmella, of Kokomo, IN and their four daughters and spouses; Mark Walters and wife, Luanne, and their three daughters and spouses; Kenneth R. Walters and wife, Tracey, and their two sons and spouses; Rosanna Yoder and husband, Greg, and their two children and spouses; Belinda Beers and husband, Gordon, and their three boys and spouses; Valerie Spickler and husband, Greg, and their two children, all of Belleville; his brothers and sisters, Helen Seaholtz and husband, Irvin, and Deloris Kanagy and husband, Leroy, both of Allensville, and Richard Walters of Milroy; two sisters-in-law, Verda Walters of Belleville and Kathy Walters, of Florida; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two more great grands to be born this year. Leroy is also survived by his best friend and trucking buddy of many years, Gary Spickler and his significant other, Joan McMullen, of Milroy.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Walters and Robert Walters.
Leroy was a self-employed truck driver along with his wife of 40+ years. He worked for many trucking companies, but his last employment was with Class 1 Transport in McVeytown. He could be seen in the raspberry colored truck also known as “Empty Pockets”.
He was a life member of OOIDA (Owner/Operator Independent Drivers Assoc.), and a social member of the Lewistown Loyal Order of the Moose #143. Leroy loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren near and far and his truck was his life. He also enjoyed being in the garage with his son.
His family will receive friends and a viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at Watts Memorial United Methodist Church in Belleville. His funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. on Friday at the church with Pastor Josh Randolph officiating.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an organization of the donor’s choice.
The family of Leroy wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the 5th Floor Trauma ICU at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, and the staff at Mount Nittany Medical Center Emergency Room for all their wonderful care.
