Lucy A. Bawel, 81, of El Dorado, Ark., passed away on June 2, 2022, at the Erianger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn.
She was born on Nov. 29, 1940, in Allensville, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Thelma (Peachey) Bawel.
After graduating from high school, she entered nurse’s training at the Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing. Early in her nursing career, she answered the call to voluntary service at the Hudson Memorial Nursing Home in El Dorado, Ark. Completing her voluntary service, she made El Dorado her home. After working at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home for a few years, he attended the University of Arkansas earning her B.S. in nursing. She returned to El Dorado as Nursing Director at the Union Memorial Hospital. Following this, she accepted the position of Director of Nursing at Medical Park Hospital in Hope, Ark. Lucy concluded her professional career as the director of nursing at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home. In 2003, she retired from her nursing career. In her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends. For the past 24 years, Lucy served as a member of the El Dorado Connections Advisory Council, and gave of herself in service to many community organizations.
Along with her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by two infant brothers. She is survived by her best friend, Leta Bullard, two sisters, Esther L. Hostetler and husband Thomas of Crossville, Tenn., and Ella Mae Shildt and husband Gerald of St. Thomas, Pa., seven nieces, five nephews, 66 great-nieces and nephews, and 43 great-great nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church, Belleville, Pa. Burial will take place following the service at Locust Grove Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Locust Grove Church on Wednesday. A memorial service will be held in El Dorado, Ark., at a later date.
