Mary Ann (Hershberger) Payne

October 21, 1930 - September 9, 2022




Mary Ann (Hershberger) Payne, 91, of Valley View Haven, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, at the Haven.


She was born Oct. 21, 1930, in Detroit Lakes, Minn., a daughter of the late Elmer and Golda (Kauffman) Hershberger. On April 15, 1955, she married Paul G. Payne, who preceded her in death on July 12, 2020.

She is survived by: her children, Diane Shetler and husband, Reuben, of Belleville, Elizabeth Adamic and Heath, of Ravenna, Ohio, Pamela McLachlin and Neal, of Piedmont, S.D., Paul T. Payne and wife, Pamela, of Hicksville, Ohio, and Twila Martin and husband, John, of Belleville; grandchildren, Willow Shetler, Kiersten Payne, Lauren Payne, Emma Payne, Annemarie Martin, Nikolas Fisher, Chasity Dunbar and Loraina Lutz; seven great-grand- children, as well as a sister-in-law, Betty Hershberger of Montana.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by two brothers, Franklin Hershberger and an infant, Leland Hershberger and two sisters, Louise Hershberger and Doris Erb.

Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a long-time member of Otelia Mennonite Church in Mount Union and upon relocation to Belleville, of the Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church. She served many years as a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher and on various women’s organizations of the church. She was also a volunteer for the Huntingdon County Hospice Program and the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Huntingdon. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and hosting guests.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at Otelia Mennonite Church, 12353 Beacon Lodge Road, Mount Union. Burial will take place at Otelia Mennonite Cemetery following the service. Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022, at Henderson Funeral Home, 3813 W. Main St., Belleville and again from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.
