Millard R. Hartzler

April 21, 1948 - February 10, 2025






Millard R. Hartzler, 76, of 79 Brookfarm Drive, Belleville, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.


He was born on April 21, 1948 in Mill Creek, to the late Glen and Alta (Hartzler) Hartzler. On June 14, 1969, he married Arlene E. Hartzler, who preceded him in death on June 8, 2018.


Millard and his wife were second parents to Jennifer, Jessica, and Ian.


He is survived by siblings: Verda Walters of Belleville, Irvin Hartzler and wife Sara of Belleville, Esther Crider and husband Glenn of Shippensburg, Edith Martin and husband Ronnie of Shippensburg; sisters-in-law: and Darlis Hartzler of Belleville, as well as his wife’s family: David Spicher and wife, Jackie, Mary Hostetler and husband, Ralph, Jay Spicher and wife, Rose Marie, Esther Hartzler and husband Chuck, and Lee Spicher and wife, Shari, all of Belleville; Edith Hartzler and husband, Frank, of Reedsville, and Ruth Pope and husband, Chris, of Knoxville, Tenn.


In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Fred Walters; sister-in-law, Laurie Spicher; and brother, Loren W. Hartzler, on February 7, 2025.


He graduated from Huntingdon High School.  He was an over-the-road truck driver for several different companies, and lastly, he drove for Fed Ex, where he spent 14 years team trucking with his wife, Arlene, until their retirement in January 2017.  Following retirement, he enjoyed hauling the local amish.


He was a “charter member” of the Upper Room Coffee Shop, where he gathered with local friends each morning during the week. He also enjoyed his Wednesday morning breakfast and gathering sessions at the salebarn, as well as Michele’s OIP in Reedsville.  He was a storyteller.  He loved socializing and would often take people to lunch after church, and he would never let the single ladies pay for their lunch.  He loved traveling, with Alaska being one of his favorite trips.


The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for the excellent care they gave Millard in the past couple weeks.


A Memorial Service will be held at Maple Grove Mennonite Church, 115 Maple Grove Road, Belleville on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Carl Geissinger officiating.  Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Allensville Mennonite Cemetery.
