Richard W. Shilling

June 19, 1934 - November 20, 2021




Richard W. Shilling, 86, of Valley View Village, passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, at his home.


Born Dec. 19, 1934, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Robert William Shilling Sr. and Beulah (Goss) Shilling.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marjorie (Esh) Shilling; siblings, Rodger D. Shilling and wife Sally and Robert W. Shilling Jr. and wife Connie; as well as nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Margaret W. Esh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, I. Robert Esh.

Dick was a 1952 graduate of Armagh-Brown High School. He was employed by Letterman’s Bakery and then at New Holland where he retired in 1991 after 35 years of service. He served four years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Newport News from 1953-1957.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Belleville, where he served on council and sang in the choir. He was a more than 50-year member and past master of McVeytown Lodge No. 376 F&AM. He was also a life member of Stroup-Alexander Post No. 5935 VFW in Belleville and a member of Kishacoquillas Rod and Gun Club. He volunteered for many years at Valley View Haven. He enjoyed golfing and traveling with his wife, seeing all over the United States as well as overseas areas.

His graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville, with Pastor Gerald Peachey officiating.
