March 2, 1928 - January 15, 2024
Savilla Nancy (Kanagy) King, left her well-worn, body on Monday, January 15, 2024, after nearly ninety-six years. Born March 2, 1928 to Pius and Mary (Yoder) Kanagy, she was the last of her immediate family including six brothers, David, Attrentis, Paul, Chester, Pius Jr, and Titus.
On March 22, 1952, she married John L. King, who preceded her in death on February 25, 2003 after 50 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were an infant daughter, Debra, an infant grandson Joel Peachey, and one son-in-law Timothy Ulmer.
Surviving are children: Maretta Barr and husband Philip of Spain, Pamela Laughlin and husband Gary of Dayton, OH, Catherine Terry and husband Tommy (William) of Trinity, Alabama, Barbara Peachey and husband Sheldon of Belleville, Nancy Martin and husband Timothy of Stuart, Florida, Rebecca Ulmer of Belleville, Paul King and wife Crystal of Milton, PA, Dale King and wife Heidi of Belleville, Savilla Peachey and husband Lowell of Allensville, and Emily King of Allensville; 26 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Orpha King and Kathy Kanagy, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Savilla’s service to God was faithful, selfless with seemingly untiring devotion to her husband and family, which included caring for her precious daughter, Emily, until the age of 91. Her outside service included Sunday School teacher, sewing circle, community choir, Ladies Octet and deaconess for Maple Grove Mennonite Church.
Savilla enjoyed flower gardening, canning, quilting, sewing, crocheting, feeding and watching the birds, doing puzzles, and baking. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and gained much comfort from quoting scripture at night.
Although it is hard to say goodbye, we are confident and comforted that she is safely harbored in Christ.
Psalm 16:11 ESV
You make known to me the path of life;
In your presence there is fullness of joy;
At your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Locust Grove Cemetery.
