Sherle L. Wert, 84, of Belleville, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at William Penn Nursing Center, Lewistown.
He was born on June 12, 1940, in Juniata County, to the late Jacob and Fern (Brubaker) Wert. On May 11, 1963, he married Mary E. (Peachey) Wert, who survives at their home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children: Sandra L. Peachey and husband Don of Belleville, Brian L. Wert and wife Sherry of Reedsville, Heather R. Eby and husband J.B. of Belleville; 6 grandchildren: Kendra Martin and husband Neil, Garrett Peachey, Kelly Jones and husband Dan, Kristine Wert and fiancé Michael Wagner, Madeline E. Eby and Olivia C. Eby; one great-grandson: Oliver Martin; sister: Judy M. Kanagy and companion Bob Baker; brothers-in-law: Philip Varner and wife Gloria; Joe Peachey, Lee Peachey, Dave Peachey, and Lester Peachey; sister-in-law: Sara Ann Peachey.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Kyle Wert on December 27, 2021, and siblings: Helen Ann Peachey and her husband Richard, Nancy Varner, brothers-in-law: Dan Kanagy, Jesse Peachey, Lewis Peachey, and sister-in-law: Arlene Peachey.
He graduated in 1956 from Juniata High School and served in 1W service for two years following high school. He was a John Deere mechanic for 40+ years and an over-the-road truck driver for 10 years.
He was a member of Big Valley Men’s Chorus and Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and song leader.
He enjoyed doing puzzles, telling stories of his trips in the truck, spending time with his grandchildren and tinkering in his garage.
A viewing will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church, 81 Wagner Street, Belleville. There will also be a viewing from 10 – 11 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, also at the church. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery.
