Sylvanus S. Peachey

November 21, 1930 - October 24, 2021




Sylvanus S. Peachey, 90, of 421 Wills Road, Belleville, passed away at 6:15 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, at his home surrounded by family.


Born Nov. 21, 1930, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Simon J. and Susan (Bawel) Peachey. On Nov. 11, 1954, he married Ada R. (Zook) Peachey. She preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2009.

Surviving are his children, Mary Jane King and husband Eli of Belleville, Susanna J. Peachey of Belleville, Karen L. Peachey of Belleville, Nathan P. Peachey and wife Linda of Belleville, Mark S. Peachey and wife Barb of Denver, Pa., Ruth E. Kauffman and husband J. Timothy of Reedsville, and Regina A. Yoder and husband Floyd of Fairland, Okla.; 31 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Catherine M. Zook.

Along with his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his siblings, Stephen E., Alvin J., Aaron B., Eli D., Ezra J., Malinda S., Amelia S. Graber, Emma S. Zook, and Simon J.

Sylvanus was a life-long farmer and also served as the caretaker of Locust Grove Cemetery for many years. He was a member of Valley View Amish Mennonite Church where he served as treasurer and as a janitor for a number of years.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, planting trees and traveling with his wife Ada to many places including Alaska and Europe.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, at Valley View Amish Mennonite Church with Ministers Jesse Zook, David J. Peachey, Matthew Peachey and Earl Peachey officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Locust Grove Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.
