Sylvia E. Byler

Sylvia E. Byler, 69, of 315 Diesel Drive, Belleville, passed away at 6:17 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.


She was born May 7, 1953 in Belleville, a daughter of the late Emanuel L. and Sadie L. (Hostetler) Byler.

She is survived by: her daughter, Karen N. Byler of Belleville, her brothers and sisters, Henry E. Byler & wife Barbara of Belleville; Salinda Peachey of New York; and Emanuel J. Byler of Belleville; two sisters-in-law, Mary Byler Peachey & husband Moses, and Salinda Byler, both of Belleville, as well as a number of special nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Daniel H., Norman E. and Willie E. Byler.

Sylvia attended the Amish schools. She was a taxi driver for the Amish, and in earlier years, she had her bakery license and she and her mother would sell their baked goods at the weekly sale. She was well known for her chocolate whoopie pies. She also assisted her parents and then later her brothers on their dairy farm. She had a very caring spirit and was often found tending to the animals on the farm and was a caregiver for her aging parents in their later years.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, baking, gardening and going shopping.

Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022 at Rock Haven Church of God in Christ Mennonite, 146 Peachey Rd., Belleville, PA with Pastors Elmer Swarey, Amos Peachey, and Ivan Yoder officiating. Burial will take place at Rock Haven Cemetery following the service. Her family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Rock Haven Church.
